"Unforgiven" is a 1992 Western film which was produced and directed by Clint Eastwood with the screenplay written by David Webb Peoples. The film tells the story of William Munny, an aging and retired gunslinger who takes on one more job years after he had hung up his guns and turned to farming. A dark Western that deals frankly with the uglier aspects of violence and the myth of the Old West, it stars Eastwood in the lead role, along with Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris, Jaimz Woolvett, Saul Rubinek and Frances Fisher. Eastwood dedicated the movie to former directors and mentors Don Siegel and Sergio Leone. The film won four Academy Awards including Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Hackman), Best Director, Best Film Editing and Best Picture. Eastwood himself was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, but he lost to Al Pacino for Scent of a Woman. The beginning【豪華ブックレット写真集付属】(初回生産限定盤)(DVD付) 今聞きたいものがなく、久しぶりにCDを買いました。いつもはダウンロードしていたのですが
DVDも気になり買いました。　DVDで1曲目を聞いてそのパワーは健在でした。
すばらしい歌声が耳から離れません。　本当に買って良かった。

許されざる者上大河ドラマを見終わったような充足感が得られる。著者の力作！で、並々ならぬ思いが伝わってくる。その上、細かいところまで大量に多彩なものを取り込んでいて、これが絵本ならば、さしずめ安野光雅の『旅の絵本』のように、よく見ると、こんなところにこんな人や物が描かれている、といった感じだった。あくまでフィクションだとは思うが、ジャック・ロンドンが日本とこんなに関わったことが不思議だった。また夏目漱石、森鴎外、田山花袋、頭山満、幸徳秋水なども登場する。それに正露丸も征露丸と書かれ、そういえば日露戦争下で、そういう名前で売り出したんだっけなあ〜といったトリビアも織り交ぜられている。

　舞台は著者の出身である和歌山。森宮（しんぐう）と読ませている架空の土地は、恐らく、新宮がモデルなのだろう。主人公は「毒取ル」とあだ名された医師の槇。アメリカでドクトルの学位を得て、カナダで１年経験を積んだのち帰国。その後インドで修業を積んだのち帰国。そこからがいよいよ物語の幕開けとなる。日露戦争前からその後の森宮を中心にストーリーが進んでいく。

　タイトルの許されざる者とは、とある恋に落ちた者をさすのだろうけれど、当事者だと２人なので、単数形なのは日本語的意味でなのか、そのうちの片方だけ、本当に１人だけなのか、こういうとき、英語は便利といえば便利だ。

　槇には、非常に美しい千春、肺病を患っている建築設計士の勉という親戚がいる。槇がインドに行っている間、千春は何者かに毒殺されかける。その後、槇が帰国してから犯人らしき者が判明し、その後も千春を巡っては、さまざまな男性が思いを寄せ、また身近にいとこだと言う者が現れ、またそこから騒動がわき起こる。

　しかし本当の騒動は着々と進められていた。各国のグレート・ゲームや時代の流れで、日本もその時流に乗ろうとしていた。「言葉が、それに対応する現実から遊離し、言葉だけで世界が成り立っているかのように錯覚して、それで人を動かそうとする。アジテーションと狂信的世界のはじまりだった」。そして熊野革命５人団も結成される。

　日露戦争が起きると、登場人物それぞれの運命が大きく動き出す。もしあの時、少しでも違っていたら、とも考えられるが、本書では、なるようになるという結果につながっていく。多少、あまりにも多くのことを盛り込みすぎた感があり、散漫な感じがするものの、下巻の後半から、なるようになっていく運命が中心に描かれていくことで、まとまりが出る。（これも予想に違わないため、物足りなく思う人もいるかもしれないが）ただ、和歌山は『紀ノ川』のイメージが強く、『紀ノ川』を読んだ時の感動が大きかったので、これを乗り越えるのは自分の中ではなかなか難しいかもしれない。
